About this resource

This peer-reviewed article examines three creative approaches to negotiating informed consent with children under six years old. Drawing on field notes, images and observations from four research projects, the authors consider how creative methods can support young children to understand research participation, ask questions and exercise choice. The paper emphasises the importance of approaches that are appropriate to children's maturity and capabilities, and argues that consent should be understood as an ongoing process that is continually negotiated throughout research.
